Questions from the ground

What is the difference between Admin and Devops roles?

Admin is a workspace-level role with full control over workspace content, members, and settings. Devops is an instance-level role focused on infrastructure: it has read access to all workspaces and can manage workers and view service logs, but cannot modify workspace content.

Can I create custom roles in Windmill?

Yes. While Windmill provides five built-in roles, you can create custom roles using groups. Assign folder-level permissions (viewer, writer, admin) per group to build any access profile your team needs.

Which SSO providers are supported?

Windmill supports Google, GitHub, Azure AD, Okta, GitLab, and any OpenID Connect provider via OAuth. Enterprise adds SAML SSO and SCIM provisioning for identity providers like Okta, Azure AD, and OneLogin.

Are secrets visible in logs or API responses?

No. Secrets are encrypted at rest and injected at runtime only. They are never exposed in logs, the UI, or API responses. Workers receive decrypted values in memory only during script execution.

What is the logic behind Windmill's pricing?

Windmill's pricing is based on compute units (2 worker-gb-month each) and user seats. Operators and external JWT users count as half a seat each. A unique external JWT user is counted per (username/email, scope, instance) tuple. Native workers are an exception and always count as 1 compute unit regardless of memory. Billing uses minute granularity for auto-scaling.
